Why you should stay in Val Thorens

28/08/2019

If you’re looking for the best snow conditions all year round, a great party atmosphere, or great slopes to learn on, then why not try out skiing in Val Thorens?

At 2750m, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, offering great snow conditions throughout the whole season. It’s the earliest opening resort, opening from late November and staying open until early May. This also means you can come skiing in the off-season and bag a great deal. It has great access to other valleys, as you can ski straight into Les Menuires, or take two lifts into Meribel. In two lifts, you can also get to the Fourth Valley, Orelle. Relatively unknown, it offers stunning views at 3200m, and quiet untouched slopes. Most of the properties in Val Thorens are ski-in ski-out, so if you’re looking to get out early and make the most of your skiing time, you will love the purpose-built town right on the slopes. If you’re a novice skiier, this is also great. Most of the nursery slopes are right next to the town, and the majority of them can also be used without a lift pass! Even if you’re a non-skier, you can admire the stunning views over the glacier at Cime Caron using a pedestrian pass.

Val Thorens also offers some of the best apres-ski and night-life! The 360 bar in Val Thorens is notorious, and has great visiting DJs, as well as La Folie Douce in Val Thorens which is always lively. Val Thorens also boasts the famous Malaysia club on Place Caron, which supposedly offers the best atmosphere in the Alps! If you’re a foodie, it also has a great selection of restaurants on and off the slopes. The Chalet du Thorens offers one of the widest selections of cuisine in the Three Valleys, from traditional french, to waffles and pizza, to even sushi! Or, if you’re looking for something more luxurious, there is the Chalet de la Marine, which is one of the first mountain restaurants to be awarded a michelin star.

Top restaurant: Chalet du Thorens for something to please everyone!

Top non-skiing activity: The zip-line either over the town centre, or at the top of the Val Thorens lift over the Orelle valley!

Our favourite run: Plein Sud, a gentle run which takes you right down into the centre of Val Thorens.
